Dancing On Ice is set to return for another series next year, despite poor ratings. This year's show saw record low audiences tuning in to the live shows, prompting reports that it could be axed. A source told the Daily Mirror last month:
"There's been a lot of chatter on set that there will not be a ninth series. The powers that be are unimpressed with viewing figures, especially considering how much it costs to produce...they don't know what to do. It will be a big decision for ITV, because 6 million viewers is not to be sniffed at in this day and age. But the Sunday night slot is as primetime as it gets and they'd be expecting more people to tune in."
However a spokesperson for ITV confirmed today:
"There are plans for Dancing On Ice to return in 2014."
But the show could look very different, with bosses once again planning a bit revamp to get viewers back. It could mean the judges - including newbie Ashley Roberts - getting the axe. And the hosts could also be changed. A source said:
"If things didn't work this year then the producers are going to want to shake it up again or they face the same crisis."
