Ashley talks to The Sun about Dancing On Ice

Dancing on Ice judge Ashley Roberts might get a frosty reception from Samia Ghadie on tomorrow’s show - after insisting SHE would never steal another woman’s fella. Samia’s sizzling chemistry with TV partner Sylvain Longchambon, 32, has set tongues wagging - after he admitted fancying her and dumped his Hollyoaks star girlfriend Jennifer Metcalfe.
US beauty Ashley, 31, rapped: “I’m not here to judge her personal life - but I’d NEVER even like a person who was with someone else. The answer will always be no. It’s just not right. That turns the switch off for me. Finding them attractive is one thing, but as soon they’re attached it’s a no. There’s no trust otherwise. You want somebody who’s going to be with you and for the right reasons. Otherwise what are you building? What’s the foundation for that relationship?”
The ex-Pussycat Doll - who starred in last year’s I’m A Celebrity - is single. She said: “I’d love to have somebody to share my life with but I’m picky. If somebody comes along, great - but I’m not going to settle for something that isn’t right.”
Ashley insisted her views would not cloud her judgment on the ITV1 show of Samia, 30 - who recently split from Corrie co-star boyfriend Will Thorp, 35. She said: “I’m aware of what Samia’s going through but I don’t know where her head is. I’ve not spoken to her about it as it’s not my place. I’m here to judge her performance on the ice.”
In another thinly veiled barb, she made clear that Samia’s displays left her cold. Ashley said: “Her skating was great but I definitely want to see more fire, more punch, more attack. I’m looking for lots of passion on the ice, because if you’re not passionate it's no fun. If you don’t give yourself completely over to the performance, the audience won’t enjoy it, I won’t enjoy it, so why are you there? I need to see that fire. And if I don’t, I’ll be honest about it. If you commit to something like this you need to show up, regardless of anything else. But Samia has a lot of potential, so I’m excited to see how she progresses - if she sticks around.”
Some 8.8million viewers watched Ashley make her show debut alongside fellow judges Robin Cousins, Karen Barber and Jason Gardiner last Sunday. Fans were shocked as Pamela Anderson got the boot. But Ashley was full of praise for some of the 11 stars left, in particular ex-EastEnder Matt Lapinskas and Keith Chegwin.
She told The Sun: “Matt has some balls. He doesn’t have any fear. That’s half the battle.” And she said of ex-kids’ TV host Keith “He’s a jolly little jellybean. You can tell he loves being there. Is he doing crazy, hard techniques? No. But the performance is authentic and he made me smile.”
However, there were certainly no smiles between warring judges Karen and Jason, whose feud began last year. Ashley admitted: “I didn’t know what they would be like together, so I was surprised by how frosty things were between them. I’m smack in the middle of them, so I’m going to have to work on my punches in case anything happens. Karen is with the contestants every day and bonds with them, so her emotions are really strong. On the other hand, Jason’s giving his opinions on their performance and he doesn’t have a filter. He’s blunt and honest. I hope it doesn’t come to blows, because that would be unfortunate. But we’ll be lucky to get through the series without things getting more heated.”
Despite the spat, Ashley is thrilled to be on the series. She said: “It’s so much fun and I love the glamour and sparkles - especially after a month in the jungle. I feel it’s a good panel this year. There’s a nice balance between Karen and Robin, the skate legends, and me and Jason, the performers. Jason’s a lot of fun and I think we're going to go out drinking together soon. But that doesn’t mean I’ll end up on Team Jason rather than Team Karen.”
Pamela Anderson’s shock exit on last week’s show was due to her repeated blunders, Ashley said.
Jittery Pammi, 45, lost a skate-off against Keith Chegwin as she struggled to keep her boobs inside her skimpy outfit. Ashley insisted: “She stumbled too many times in the skate-off. When she tripped for the third time, we were like, ‘C**p, we can’t save her now’. Maybe if she had just one slip and had pulled it out of the bag, we could have saved her. She was a natural on the ice. But there was no way we could let her off that many mistakes. I don’t know if it was nerves or the dress malfunction that got to her, but she had to go.”
Ashley admitted being gutted at missing the chance of romance with I’m A Celebrity host Declan Donnelly. Dec, 37, made clear he fancied her on the show with a comic skit in which he asked her to a party.
But Ashley admitted: “I’ve not heard from him at all, so I can’t see anything happening there now. I didn’t see him at the wrap party either. After the party I went to a club with David Haye, Mark Wright and a few friends and danced my little tushy off. We partied until the wee hours of the morning and I was bouncing around all over the place because I was so excited to be out of the jungle. We had a good time, but nothing happened between me and Mark, either. He’s a nice guy but I’d only been free for 24 hours. I just wanted to have some fun.”
